Export Your Drive

A new export has three steps: What to export, File formats and Save to. Open New export in the menu to start.

Step 1: What to export

  1. Pick the area to export from with the tabs at the top:
    • My Drive – everything in your own Drive.
    • Shared with me – files and folders other people shared with you.
    • Shared drives – one shared drive you are a member of. Choose it from the list.
  2. Choose Export everything in that area, or Export specific folders or files and click Choose folders or files to pick them in the Google picker. Click Add more to pick from another place.
  3. Under File types, leave All files ticked to export everything, or tick only the types you want (documents, spreadsheets, presentations, PDFs, photos, videos, audio, drawings, archives, other files).
  4. Open More options to narrow the export by the date files were last modified, or by owner (Anyone, Owned by me, Owned by others).
  5. Click Next.

Step 2: File formats

Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drawings are not ordinary files, so they are converted when exported. Choose one format per type. See Google File Formats for the full list.

Only the types your step 1 selection can include are shown. Click Next.

Step 3: Save to

Choose where the files go:

Click Start export (or Start copy).

Reading your Drive

Drive Downloader first lists the files and checks them against your plan. You see the file count and size grow while it reads. The export starts as soon as this finishes.

Note

An export over your plan limits does not start at all, because Drive Downloader cannot choose which files to leave out. You see every limit it would break. Narrow the selection, or upgrade to Premium.

One export at a time

Each account runs one export at a time. You can start a new one as soon as the current one finishes, or after you cancel it.

Your Drive is not changed

Drive Downloader only reads the files you export. Nothing in your Drive is moved, edited or deleted.
